Ⅳ History: a Romantic story

When Taj mahal was build, it was the era of Mughal Empire (1526~1858).
In the era,  Muslims governed a lot of Hinduri . But Hinduri has no custom of building big grave.
 Who build Taj Mahal?
The answer is Muslims- noble people.
Then, I'd like to introduce two important people.

One is a woman,Mumtaz Mahal: a queen of
Mughal  Empire
Another is a  man, Shah Jahan: 5th emperor, Mumtaz’s husband
Two loved each other so much  and  had 14 children.

However, a tragedy happened in 1631.
  Mumutaz died in 14th childbirth.
Shah was so despressed that his hair changed white in a day.
Before her death, she asked him two things.
Her two hopes : not to marry other women
② to build a big grave for her
  Shah promised her.

In about1653, Taj Mahal was completed.
20000 people had to work per day.
First, the grave was called Mumtaz mahal so it changed Taj mahal.

In fact, Shah Jahan planned to build his own grave across Taj Mahal and in front  of  Taj Mahal.

It is called Black Taj Mahal because it was planned to be made black mable.
But, He was put in Agra castle by his 3rd son
          (Aurangzerb, 6th emperor)
After his death, Shah was buried next to Mmtaz  Mahal in Taj Mahal.
This couple sleep together in Taj Mahal forever...

So Taj Mahal is also called "the monument of beloved".
          How romantic it is!

Ⅴ The Criteria for Selection
In order to be selected as World Heritage, it is necessary to clear the criteria Unesco provided. Taj Mahal is true of one of them, 'to represent a masterpiece of human creative genius'.(http://whc.unesco.org/en/criteria)

Highlights
Well, why was Taj Mahal registered as World Heritage? I'll introduce to you.

1. It is made with a lot of white marbles and its sculptures are so elaborate.
It isn't only carved. Many jewels are mounted, so I'm sure that you will enjoy!

Ⅶ Construction
Taj Mahal has many features on construction.
First, about outside of Taj Mahal.

1. Originality - In conventional style, the main building was in the middle of the garden, but Taj Mahal is not in the middle of the garden. The reason why it was built like that is to be in a visual aspect.

2. Geometry - It is composed of square. Geometry is Islamic culture.

3. Layout of trees or fountains - Architects arranged trees or fountain well, so you can feel coolness and see beautiful sight.

Then, about inside of Taj Mahal.

As you can see the picture, there are nine rooms in Taj Mahal. The central one is a imaginary room where funeral is done. The others surround it. Each room expresses heaven written in Koran.

Ⅷ Present Problems
       1. Environment problem - In this region, the temperature changes widly. Moreover, there are exhaust gas and acid rain. They make marbles deteriorated, so in order to protect it, many workers clean or repair it.

        2. Ownership problem - There is an ownership problem between Muslim organizations and India central goverment. Sunn started to claim the ownership of it. On the othar hand, Shiah claim that an architect of Shiah built it, but truth is unknown. Against these claims, India central government claims that on the ancient monuments and archaeological sites and remain act in 1920, India central government assume the ownership of it.

Ⅸ Tourism
Taj Mahal is one of the most popular spots in India. Unesco said that in 2001, 2 million people, including more than 200,000 people from overseas, visited Taj Mahal.
Entrance fee is different between Indian and others. Indian is 20 Indian Rupee, but others are 750 Indian Rupee.

Ⅹ Warning
If you want to visit, you should mind two things. I'll explain them.
           1. Indians who treat you kindly and ask you money - There are many Indians because Indian can enter at 20 Indian Rupee, and they talk to you and take pictures for you, and then ask you money.

           2. Indian men who like women - Indian is sometimes said that they express their feelings straight, so they may suddenly hug you. In fact, there are many incidents.

If you visited, you would keep them in your mind.

Ⅺ Summary
To sum our talk, Taj Mahal can fascinate in many aspects like sight or history and it is loved.

Ⅻ Conclusion
Taj Mahal is a wonderful building, but now, it is suffering from some problems, so we have to protect it. In order to protect it, we need to preserve nature and to stop conflicts among religions.
